A Great Pocket Camera June 21, 2010 Brian C. Wilson (vancouver, washington, US) I purchased this camera as a replacement for my 5 mega pixel camera purchased in 2004. Six years is a long lifespan for a small digital camera and to this day the only complaint I have about the little HP is that the screen is so small. It still takes great photos, albeit in decent light. I bought this Fujifilm J38 simply because of the price and am amazed at the amount of features it contains. My photos look great even in low light and the ability to crop them on the preview screen is nice. I am very happy with it so far. Not sure if I'll like it as long as I did my HP, but so far so good.
No DATE No TIME Stamp May 21, 2010 T (New York) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I never imagined that there wouldn't be a date and time setting for my new camera.
I was shocked and perturbed to say the least when I discovered this. Fuji doesn't offer this feature on ANY of their cameras. I discovered this after the return period expired which, made me more upset.
I will never buy a Fuji and will make sure that I can have a date and time stamp for any important / date and time sensitive photos, when I get the next camera.
Disappointing ... May 20, 2010 AmyG 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this camera looking for a simple camera to take family pics and pictures with small detail for school (I don't use video functions at all). I was pretty disappointed. The first J38 I ordered had to be sent back due to a lens malfunction. The second one took gorgeous images provided that there was more than enough light; but even with so many light settings, everything else was suprisingly noisy and grainy. If I used the flash, white objects drowned out all the detail. I took some pictures outside on a bright but overcast day, and more inside the house at midday with good lighting; not one came out without noise or blurriness.
To its credit, the camera charged up very quickly, though I disliked the fact that it didn't have a seperate battery charger. It was intuitive and very small, even smaller than my cell phone. It takes better pictures than my cell phone too, but seeing as my cell phone was free and this camera cost over $100.00, I'm returning it. I'm thinking of spending a few hundred more on a camera.
I'm sure you could get this camera to take reliably decent pictures, especially in bright lighting. I understand it's just a point-&-shoot, but after seeing what my last $100.00 point-and-shoot Fuji could do, I expected more.
ONE OF THE BEST CAMERAS I HAVE HAD May 11, 2010 M. Espinoza (tacoma wa) I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA IN DECEMBER AND I GOT TO TELL YOU IT IS A VERY GOOD CAMERA IT TAKES GOOD PICS AND VIDEOS (FYI YOU CAN ZOOM IN VIDEOS) ITS THE SIZE OF A DECK OF CARDS GOOD FLASH AND VERY EASY TO USE
Flimsy parts not covered by warranty May 3, 2010 M. S. Harvey (Bolton, MA United States) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this camera for my teenage son for Christmas. Four months later, after using it no more than 3 or 4 times, the flimsy piece of plastic that holds the battery in place broke, so now the camera is unusable. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this part is not covered by warranty. With no repair centers in Massachusetts, our only option is to pay shipping to send it to Fuji and await a repair estimate. I think I'll try to fix it with superglue instead... For a $100 camera I find this outrageous. The other digital cameras in our family are Canons, and they have worked for years without any problems. I would never buy another Fuji camera again!
