Nice camera but... July 19, 2010 Ruth A Olson (Suwanee, GA, US) I ordered this camera as a gift, and it functions well, but the focus motor broke about 2 weeks after receiving it. I hope Panasonic will replace the camera with a new one, not one that's been refurbished.
worked great but NOT waterproof! July 13, 2010 amberuna I really loved this camera and had it over a year. I took it to the beach and it worked great in the water, but a year later when I took it in the pool I double checked that all the compartments were secure but water still made its way into the battery compartment and the camera was ruined. However, I really did love the camera up to that point. I do think it takes great pictures and I am sad that I can't use it anymore. I just want to let everyone know that the 2nd time I used the camera in the water it did not proove to be completely waterproof. Next time I want a waterproof camera I am going to splurge for the Sony DSC-T900 and the MPK-THH Marine Pack. My father has this and it works great!
Easy-to-use. Good all-round camera. June 30, 2010 ambric We have had a few Casio Exilim cameras before this one as carry-with-you snapshot devices. Those were slim and inexpensive, but one died due to a drop in shallow water and the other due to a drop onto concrete. Those experiences made the Panasonic's water- and shock-proof claim attractive. We used it on a mission trip to Southern Texas and I will not go back to Casio. The picture quality is notably better, especially the outdoor pics. We took it in the ocean and captured some really great video, too. I like the "iA" feature which automatically selects a scene mode based on what the camera sees. It works pretty well for most conditions and helps you get good shots without having to mess with settings. The start-up time is also very good. Taken together, these features mean I could whip it out and grab a shot at a moment's notice (which is important in a snapshot camera). My favorite feature, though, is the wider angle lens. I was really surprised how much more you can fit in a shot with it. It actually takes some getting used to as you have to either move closer or use the (very adequate) zoom to get close enough to see people's faces. It's much better than the old "scoot in a little closer" while backing up to try to get everything in the picture. The menu setup is pretty intuitive, too, unlike some cameras I've played with (like an Olympus which was terrible). Overall, I am very pleased with the camera and would say the extra cost was definitely worth it.
Good 2nd camera to SLR June 3, 2010 Richard D. Roth Jr. (Broomall, PA) I have used a full size DSLR for years but can't always cary it. This is a sturdy camera with very good image quality. Check out [...] and [...] for un biased reviews. This camera comes in the top two for water/shock proof units. So far I really like it and haven't had my SLR out since I bought this because it's always with me now.
Great Camera for All Weather May 21, 2010 V. Wilson (Kentucky, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this camera. I'm an occasional photographer, so I wanted something small and easy to use. Bought this to take on a recent trip. It poured the rain every day and the camera worked flawlessly. Got great shots of a sculpture garden in the rain. It has exceeded all my expectations. Haven't tried it underwater yet. Battery is easy to charge and easy to change. Auto-focus works great for me, since I don't care to spend a lot of time with settings.
